Peer Review

What is peer review?

Peer review is an evaluation process of articles and scientific works used to ensure higher publication quality. When submitted, the article is forwarded to two volunteer reviewers. Finally, the reviewers must prepare a report, which will be sent to the authors of the evaluated article.

Responsibilities of a reviewer

  • Read different articles submitted to Revista Práticas Psi: Práticas Profissionais em Psicologia that are assigned to you;

  • Prepare a review report for each article, based on a critical evaluation of the text. The evaluation involves examining elements such as cohesion, coherence, quality, and relevance of the article, considering knowledge in your area of expertise;

  • Assess potential conflicts of interest when reading and preparing the review reports and disclose them if any exist;

  • Pay close attention to the established deadlines, considering the quarterly periodicity of the journal’s publications;

  • Submit the review report.

Eligibility

The editorial committee considers the following aspects when selecting reviewers:

  • Reviewers should have publishing experience, either as authors and/or as reviewers for peer-reviewed journals. This experience provides the necessary basis for producing a thorough and objective review. However, individuals with limited experience are also encouraged to apply and may seek training to produce high-quality reviews;

  • In addition to expertise in the field, reviewers should be able to evaluate research in Psychology equitably. This includes awareness of individual and collective biases, as well as the impacts of historical and systemic limitations on the full participation in psychological science. Such care contributes to the publication of manuscripts with different methodologies and types of evidence that serve multiple communities;

  • Reviewing a manuscript requires time (1–4 hours per manuscript). If selected to review, it is important to be prepared to dedicate the necessary time for a thorough evaluation;

  • If invited to serve as a reviewer, you will be asked to complete a profile identifying your areas of expertise. This will help the editorial committee assign articles that best match your interests and knowledge;
